Nyjah Huston wins at the Monster Energy Men's Skateboard Street Final

Nyjah Talks X Games Sydney

Sep 242018

Monster Energy sat down with Nyjah Huston to discuss the upcoming 2018 X Games in Sydney and get a feel for what it takes to compete on the biggest stage.

You pumped for the first X Games Sydney?

Yes I am super pumped for X Games Syndey, it’s one of my favorite places I’ve traveld before so I’m excited.

Have you been down under before? I hear the toilets flush the wrong way…

Haha, yeah I’ve been to Australia a few times, Melbourne specifically. Actually, the first-ever pro contest I skated in was in Melbourne, the Globe World Cup when I was 11 years old. I’ve been back a few times since then, but I am stoked to go back.

How many X Games will this be for you?

This will be 19

How many medals are on the shelf at home?

In the twenties

Any good traveling suggestions?

Honestly I’m not a very touristy person, but I try to explore the city I’m visiting as much as I can, and find sick spots to skate and film at.

How do you mentally prepare for such a big event?

I’m a lot more used it by now, but I just make sure I’m maintaining my health and feeling good on my board, feeling ready. Day of, the biggest thing for me is not to overthink it and to just stay calm and have fun.

Did you know that the male platypus (which is only found in Australia) has strong enough venom to kill a small dog?

Haha, I did not know that.

What does it mean to you to win X Games?

It means a lot to me. X Games has always been on e of the biggest skating contests and I’m stoked I was able to win the last one. Excited for the first time it’s gonna be in Sydney.

Any big supporters in your life?

For sure—my mom and my family and my group of friends have always been there for me. My homies have been with me for so long now and I’m honestly so blessed.
