Petter Solberg talks us through the amazing Dirt 4!

Jun 152017

It has been over six long years since mud-hungry race fans have been able get strap themselves in and get behind the wheel of a true mainline Dirt game, but with Dirt 4 finally hitting stores globally this past week, the premiere rally and rallycross game is very much back in business.

As well as pushing cars to the absolute limit in regular Rally stages, Dirt 4 sees the return of the world’s fastest-growing motorsport Rallycross, and Monster’s own Petter Solberg has been consulting on the project and his car features in the game.

In fact, Petter has been involved with this famed series since its inception back in the 90's, when it was known as Colin McRae rally, named after the sadly departed Scottish Rally legend.

“Colin was the guy who helped me during the start of my career in rally,” Solberg explains. “We were very good friends, so when the first Colin McRae game started, we were practicing a lot, testing a lot, that was very enjoyable to be a part of the first game, and for me he was a fantastic person, and everyone knows his driving style, he was very aggressive, and good fun, so it makes me very happy to be a part of Dirt 4.”

“You’re not trying to learn a stage, you’re trying to get better,” explains Solberg when asked about the main differences between track racing and Rally. “It’s all about listening to your co-driver, and trying to get the flow and the rhythm.”

So, do you think you have what it takes to actually take on Petter Solberg and beat his times? You may well get the chance very soon. “My dream has been to make a stage in Dirt 4, share it with all my fans, I put a time in, hopefully nobody beats me, but to make a proper competition out of this, if somebody beats me, there’ll be some proper trophies!’

Dirt 4 is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Find out more here!
