Representing an entire country can be a stressful thing. The weight of the expectations of millions can seem like a terrifying thing, especially when they all have access to Twitter or Weibo. Yet there are some people who thrive off of that kind of pressure, they harness that energy and use it to better themselves and perform at a level that was previously thought of as being impossible. PSG.LGD stand as China’s champions and have those kinds of expectations placed upon them. However, there is a reason those expectations have been placed upon them in the first place.
Somnus, PSG.LGD’s mid player, was the protégé of the legendary WC3 DotA player, YaphetS, and he has lived up to the expectations placed upon him of having such tutelage. Together with Somnus the rest of his team are players who are used to playing under extreme pressure. Ame, Chalice, Fy, and xNova have all had the spotlight on them for the better part of their tenure on PSG.LGD, some much longer than that. Fy in particular has been credited as the man behind the success of the old Vici Gaming roster and it’s hard to argue with those who heap that praise upon him. xNova has proven to be a reliable support partner for Fy even though he had never accomplished much in the SEA scene.
The two combined immediately pushed PSG.LGD to another level as together they won EPICENTER XL, and the Changsha Major with multiple other top 4 placements throughout the DPC. Chalice also joined the team shortly before the end of 2017, around the same time as xNova, and he had even less competitive experience to his name but had stood out due to making it through TI7’s open qualifiers. With the world watching, unsure of what to expect, Chalice took the opportunity that was given to him and proved he belonged on a top team. PSG.LGD was the perfect mix of experienced, established players, and new rising stars.
