REA SUPREMACY CONTINUES WITH EMPHATIC OPENING SALVO IN AUS

World Superbike Champion Jonathan Rea’s tweet on Sunday afternoon more or less told the story of the opening round of fourteen in the 2016 series: ‘Hell yeah, 1-1! Thanks for the amazing memories Phillip Island! #team65’. Coming into a campaign where his Kawasaki Racing Team wingman Tom Sykes had scooped much of the pre-season hype and with Yamaha and champions like Nicky Hayden coming into World SBK, Rea was quick to remind everyone who was bo. The renowned 2.7 mile circuit in Victoria was an apt setting for the initial races of the new term and in which many were keen to see how the new title-winning Ninja ZX-10R would fare in the hands of the Kawasaki duo against the new R1s and an emboldened effort from the factory Ducati team, among other rivals on the grid. Predictably, the leading group was closely-packed, intense, unpredictable and utterly captivating but it was Rea who emerged as the strongest on Saturday and through the principal appointment of the revised day-two scheduling for World SBK this year.s
