Two days, 45 registered drivers, over 20 hours of DJ music and a lot of cold Monster Energy cans have summed up an amazing first stage in the Romanian Drift Championship.
We kicked day 1 with practices and quallies, that trimmed the competition leaving the most experienced drivers in the race for the 1st place, lady drivers and men alike, battled side by side in a tire slaying manner.
After an intense 1st day, we were left with 8 beginner drivers and 16 pro drivers left to go side by side in combat in the second day of the event.
Day 2 came with a bang, the drivers lining up their machines for the one-on-one battles, under the searing hot sun.
The rookies were the first to take up the start, and after a few hours of sideways action, Catalin Olteanu took the first place in his fiery orange BMW e36.
After a warmup and a lot of burnt rubber, the pros’ took the track and boy, they owned it!
A lot of sweet builds, mechanical wonders and last-minute built machines have taken turns on the track in single, double, triple and even quadruple battles (not for the faint of heart). One of the most interesting builds of this first stage was represented by Podar’s full-carbon S13, weighing less than 1 ton.
After a very hot and action packed Sunday, the winner of the first stage showed his face – Razvan Fratianu from Suceava, which demonstrated not once, but twice, that his skills are not to be taken lightly, as he battled Bulgarian driver Stefanov twice after a “one more time” decision from the jury.
It was a german e30 vs. e36 car battle between two neighboring countries, Romania and Bulgaria, with a bit of side-touching in the first run, which led Stefanov to go in to battle one more time with Fratianu’s brand new convertible(d) e36.
With an amazing event overall we can only get excited for Stage 2 that will take place in Bucharest starting June 25th, in front of the People’s Palace – faster circuit, more cars, and a hell of a lot more reasons to be a part of this next stage. See you there and enjoy a cold one!
