Royce Da 5’9 Drops The Bar Exam 4

Jun 222017

A few days ago, Royce Da 5’9 dropped his most recent mixtape The Bar Exam 4! It’s unreal to say the least. Regarding the beats on the mixtapes, they have come a long way from 2007 when he released the first ‘Bar Exam’, but his usual freestyle flow is still prevalent a decade later. He is one of the few rappers who still spits over beats released by other rappers, so there is a lot of hype surrounding this release.

Hip-hop listeners will be pleased to hear the purest lyrical exercises on some of the best beats in the game. The mixtape is a long awaited follow-up from The Bar Exam 3 which was released in March, 2010, and the most single activity from the rapper since his studio album Layers from early 2016. Earlier this year, though, he got fans hyped by posting a Facebook video with new music from his collab with Eminem in the series Bad Meets Evil. The lyrical genius will soon be touring as part of the Slaughterhouse crew on June 30.

The mixtape has been well received since its release on Datpiff with vastly positive feedback. The 28 track tape is hosted by long-time collaborator DJ Green Lantern and features Westside Gunn and Conway, Slaughterhouse, Nick Grant, and Elzhi. It has already gotten over 70,000 plays and 26,000 downloads in the brief time since being uploaded. Royce Da 5’9’s drops straight bars on these 28 fireshells. The lyrics are really what set Royce apart from other rappers and make The Bar Exam 4 special. He comments on how important Hip-Hop is to the world and how careful he is while producing new music.

Royce said in a press release for the mixtape, “I like how there are so many different groups representing the culture, I just want us all to be aware of how much this culture has provided for us and the fight we had to go through to get here. Hip-hop is a very powerful soundtrack to the world that gives testimony to our lives and it should be handled with care.”
