Silver Arrows set for the spotlight in Singapore

Sep 162017

The Formula One season comes under the spotlight this weekend with the brilliant night race in Singapore. Set among the streets with over 1,600 lights illuminating the track, it makes for an incredible spectacle. The racing is not too bad, either; the tight, twisty track will test F1's drivers to the limit, along with temperatures in the cockpit of around 50 degrees Celsius.

Pole position is key to getting a good start and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport Team star, and drivers' championship leader, Lewis Hamilton, knows there could be stiff opposition from Red Bull and Ferrari for pole.

Lewis said: "I think Red Bull will be fast this weekend and it's known that it's not going to be the easiest of weekends, but I come with positivity and I am planning on winning this race. We come here on full attack.

"Our understanding is that the car will potentially help this weekend, but you never really know where you'll be able to place the car, so if we can get the car in a place that's comfortable, a bit like we were in the last two races, then I think we will definitely be strong in the fight."

Valtteri said: "It is nice to know where you will be racing, but there was no massive panic. There was no sign from the team that they were looking anywhere else, so it is positive. I understand the team and I am very happy. If I perform well, I know I can have a good future with the team, so it is up to me."

Valtteri too stressed the importance of a decent result in qualifying, something that has been a speciality for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport Team this season.

Valtteri added: "Here, qualifying is very important and we have been good in qualifying this year. We know this race will be tough but if we can get the car right for qualifying, we will take it from there. It is always about building up the confidence and pace. We have some updates here and have the target of having a strong race."
