Solberg and Bakkerud double-down at the Estering

Oct 172016

A full speed, dirt-thrashing, fire-spitting race to the finish line; and we’re not just talking about the 2016 season as a whole, which boosted to its penultimate round in Germany this weekend in absolutely epic edge-of-the-seat style.

The tight and twisting Estering Circuit in northern Saxony is notorious on the FIA World Rallycross Championship calendar. Not least for its amphitheater style fan vibes, downhill 180km/h back straight, or chaotic first corner hairpin. A solid result here always comes hard fought, and usually carries a heavy price tag as well.

Grabbing the Monster Energy Super Charge Award with the holeshot; Petter’s strategy from the front row of the grid was inch perfect – his only mistake was to not anticipate the wild left-field and outside-line drift from rival Kevin Eriksson into turn one, who effectively claimed the race lead and the win, with an insane move.

All eyes are now on the final race of the year in Argentina at the end of November, where it will be a gloves-off final fight for the remaining championship positions. In the meantime don’t forget, you can see Ken, Andreas and Petter in full tyre smoking action before then, at the Gymkhana GRiD European Gauntlet Finals in Greece on the 29th and 30th of October.
