Loosefest XL 2019 Course walk with Sam Reynolds and Nico Vink

The Hills are Alive | Dropping in at Loosefest XL

Jul 172019

Something special has been brewing in the hills of Malmedy, Belgium, as the XL edition of Loosefest is set to turn heads in the world of Mountain Biking this week. Nico Vink, the main man behind Loosefest has been steadily beefing up the existing line over the past month into one of the most impressive Fest Series courses we’ve seen to date.

Nico - “We’ve gone all in this year, there was some margin to go a little bigger, so we started with widening the landings and making some additional transfer lips for when things are running really fast.”

The rest of the Fest crew and invited riders have now rolled into town and already things have been heating up on the hill as a couple of top to bottom runs have gone down. Well, after a few rather tentative rock, paper, scissors matches determined who was going to get it done first. Not shy of being the guinea pig, Sam was the first rider to do ride the line top to bottom.

Starting at the top of the course, as Sam Reynolds calls it -  “The calm before the storm. The enjoyable berm section gives the start of the course a super relaxing feel but in the back of your mind you just know what’s coming up next!”

The first hit is absolutely no joke, when you’re hitting speeds up to 80km approaching the first lip. Sam Reynolds, Remy Morton and Damon Iwanaga demonstrate with some huge leans.

If you happen to live in Belgium you can check out all the action live during the Loosefest XL Public Days going down this week. Stay tuned for the official course preview dropping tomorrow on Monster Energy and make sure you're following The Fest Series for daily updates.
