This Way In - Bali Pro

May 252018

Location, Location, Location.

We’re going-going, back-back, to Bali-Bali. That’s right, folks! After a cameo on the Island of the Gods in 2013, the WSL is bringing the tour back to Keramas for the Corona Bali Protected. The fifth stop of the Championship Tour will replace Fiji, which, ironically, is about to cop a historic swell this weekend. What can we expect from this refreshed event? Black-sand beaches. Temples. Rippable rights. Bikinis. High-flying airs. Plastic-pollution awareness. Indonesian lessons (repeat after me, Bagus!). The return to Indonesia, the surf world’s Disneyland, is a welcome addition for surfers and spectators alike. Let the fun begin!

The waiting period for the 2018 Corona Bali Protected extends from May 27 – June 9. Tune in to worldsurfleague.com to catch all the action!

Monster Threats
Filipe Toledo:
Hot off a win in Brazil and straight into some playful, warm-water rights? This is how Filipe’s versatility and speed propel him straight into the yellow jersey.
Owen Wright: The judges love Owen’s backhand more than Balinese love rice. Expect O Wright to leave ‘em patting their bellies with satisfaction.
Griffin Colapinto: Can the rookie sensation re-stoke the flame of his initial 2018 fire? Of course he can and, most likely, will.
Yago Dora: Yago’s backhand innovation makes the rest of the tour look like they’re surfing in the Prohibition era. Watch Yago pop a bottle of progression and chug.
Conner Coffin: Conner missed his shot in Brazil, but expect him to get his own rebound and score at Keramas, a wave the rewards power and innovation.
Frederico Morais: Is there a wave on tour that Frederico doesn’t get along with? The answer is no. Keramas, meet your new bestie.
Tyler Wright: We can’t say we expected Tyler to be out of the top 5 at this point, but we won’t be surprised if she’s right back in it when she leaves Bali.

3 Questions
What’s with the name?
Title sponsor Corona elongated “Pro” to “Protected” to raise awareness around plastic pollution in Bali. We back it.
Are they resurfing Margarets? Yep. Anyone that was still in the comp when they canceled (due to excessive sharks) will continue surfing at Uluwatu immediately following the Keramas comp.
The forecast. Tell me. Meh. It’s not epic. But “not epic” for Indo is all-time most everywhere else. You’ll be entertained.
