#Throwbackthursday: F1 2017!

During the 2017 F1-season, the Silver Arrows were merely unstoppable, to say the least. The duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas knew to score a total of 26 podium finishes in 20 races: twelve firsts, ten seconds and four third place finishes. Both gentlemen climbed up on the podium 13 times and the Monaco GP was the only race in 2017 that did not see either of the Arrows on the podium.

A season in which Bottas had to prove himself worthy, since the Silver Arrows only contracted him for one season. Apart from the fact that Valtteri himself reacted to his season with ‘mixed feelings’, we think it’s beyond safe to say that he has pulled off a fantastic season in 2017!

For Lewis, the 2017 season was awesome: not only did he place a vast amount of all-time records and achievements, he most importantly won his fourth world title! His 69th pole position at the Monza track was another achievement that should not be left unmentioned, since this earned him to break the world record of most pole positions over 68 poles by Michael Schumacher. And let’s talk about the Brazil GP, where Lewis had to start his race all the way from the back and fought himself all the way up to a fourth place finish, merely missing the podium. That’s quiet the fight, if you ask us!

Lewis mentions winning the British GP in front of his home-audience as a favourite moment of the season as he was happily surprised by their enthusiasm, apart from his world title of course. Valtteri says his first time winning a GP, during this year’s race in Russia, is his favourite. He emphasizes the fact that it took him over 80 races to get there.

As for the most emotional moment of the year, Lewis refers to the moment that he achieved the same amount of pole positions as his childhood hero, Aerton Senna. To him, this was a more important achievement than surpassing Schumacher’s world record. Valtteri thanks the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team in response to the same question; the support he received from every single member on the team during moments of personal disappointment were his most emotional moments throughout the season.

After a brilliant season like this, we can’t do anything else than waiting impatiently for the 2018 F1 season of our friends at the Silver Arrows; we’re excited!
