2016 Canadian Motocross Nationals Round 1 in Kamloops, BC

Top Five for Monster Energy Alpinestars Kawasaki at Canadian MX Season Opener

Jun 072016

The Monster Energy Alpinestars Kawasaki team kicked off its 2016 Canadian Motocross season with the season opener at the team’s hometown track, Whispering Pines Raceway, in Kamloops, British Columbia.

“The 110 degree heat tested the riders fitness levels.”

In his debut for the team, Mike Alessi logged the fourth quickest time in qualifying. He battled in the lead pack all moto long in moto one, before finishing fourth. A snapped shifter in moto two left him stuck in second gear but he soldiered on to finish a solid 6th in moto two for fifth overall. Vince Friese also made his debut for the team, finishing the day with 7-26 moto finishes.

It was a rough day for the team’s MX2 rider, Jacob Hayes, who qualified second quickest. Hayes was taken down in a first turn crash, injuring his knee. He tried to carry on but was forced to retire for the day. He will be evaluated this week to find out what the situation is going forward. The 2016 CMRC Canadian Motocross series moves on to Nanaimo, British Columbia this weekend, on Vancouver Island for round two of the series.
