TT 2018: 17th win for Dunlop and personal best for Brookes

Jun 062018

Is there any stopping Michael Dunlop? We certainly hope not! Now a 17-time TT winner, the Northern Irish ace sealed a record-breaking victory in the first Monster Energy Supersport TT, and notched up a second place podium in the RL360 Superstock TT.

Dunlop made his intentions clear on Supersport machinery early on during this year’s TT fortnight, setting the fastest lap by over 11 seconds during last week’s practice sessions.

"The bike went perfect and the pit stop was perfect but we can definitely make it better for Wednesday's race," said Dunlop after the Supersport TT. "I haven't had a lot of time on the bike but my boys have done a fantastic job and, with the right conditions, I think a 130mph lap could be possible during the next Supersport race. It's fantastic - I felt good out there and I'm starting to ride a bit harder now."

Meanwhile McAms Yamaha fuelled by Monster Energy rider Josh Brookes powered his YZF-R6 to a fantastic sixth, matching his career best Isle of Man TT finish and setting his fastest ever 600cc lap in the process.

A pleased Brookes said; “Practice has gone really well for us. Even though we didn’t ride the bike before arriving here, the McAMS Yamaha squad are very experienced guys, particularly when it comes to the Yamaha YZF-R6, so we’ve made very limited changes to the bike.

“I’m really happy with my race, I was able to keep my concentration and not run wide anywhere, so I’m pleased. The front guys seemed to be able to up their pace in the race so we’ll now have a look at to where they’re going faster and try to make another step forward on Wednesday. I’ve managed to match by best TT result and set my fastest ever lap on a Supersport machine, so I’m happy!”
