When Tyler Wright won the Roxy Pro earlier this season, we made a point of how difficult her road to victory had been. For goodness sake, she took down two of the most dominant women in the history of professional surfing, and then topped it off by beating another perennial world title contender in the final. At Margaret River, Tyler beat the same exact competitors in the same exact order (Steph, Carissa, Courtney). But this time, Tyler claimed it was “easy”. Now, don’t go mistaking her statement as pompous or cocky. Tyler is as humble as they come. But for her, surfing is easy – it’s the stress of time and scores and ratings that get in the way. With a clear mind and beautiful Indian Ocean walls before her, Tyler showed the world what she is truly capable of. Which, apparently, is two 9s in the final against the current Jeep rankings leader Courtney Conlogue. Easy peasy.
