Unior Downhill Cup in Cerkno delivers National Champions

Bike park Cerkno crew did a tremendous job this weekend by securing ideal conditions on their 1700 meters long track, what brought us some really exciting racing.

Unior Downhill Cup in Cerkno also counted as Slovenian National Championship an as a part of UCI it attracted riders not just from Slovenia, but from Austria, Croatia, Italy and UK as well.

Winners were "the usual suspects" as we would call the favourites. Monika Hrastnik from KK Črn Trn in women category and Jure Žabjek from Rajd, who is also a member of Unior Tools Team were no match for the competition. Both riders leading in overall standings just consolidated their positions with their fresh victories.

On a track with 340 meters of vertical difference they swept with the rest of the field with their "slightly over 2 minutes" final runs, even improving the ones from semis. Monika's company on women's podium were 2nd placed Špela Horvat from KK Jatrebarsko WD40 and 3rd placed Katarina Primožič from Batt Team.

With 3 consecutive National Championship wins Jure Žabljak sits on 10th place on current UCI standings, what is also the highest position that any Slovenian Downhill rider managed to achieve so far. Just behind him were Miran Vauh, who got 2nd (KK Črn trn) and bronzeman Jan Cimperman (MTB Trbovlje/Nakita), both within 4 seconds of delay.

Next Unior Downhill Cup will take place on Soriška Planina on 2nd and 3rd of September as the series comes to an end in the final one in Bike Park Pohorje at the end of the same month. Rock ON!!!
