Bodybuilding has always been a male dominated profession in India but that is fast changing. Rutuja is a IFBB Pro league bodybuilder and is giving us all the fitness motivation we need. She is breaking gender stereotypes one competition at a time and there’s no stopping this strong force. From how she prepared herself for the journey to what brought her here today, she shared everything with us in this interview. Read on to know her story.
When and how did you start your journey?
It started between 2015 and 2016. While pursing architecture, I found my passion in fitness. On completing architecture, I chose fitness as my career path.
How has your journey been since then?
The journey has been great. I never imagined myself here and that I would become a IFBB Pro one day. I see myself growing every year. I see a lot of changes in my physical and mental ability and every aspect of my life.
Who inspires you to be who you are today?
My family. It comes from my family as everybody follows their passion regardless of what they do.
Which part of bodybuilding do you love the most?
I love competing. A lot of people don’t compete even though they are passionate about bodybuilding. I am quite fond of competitions and stage appearance.
What are the challenges you faced as a woman in this profession?
It has been difficult since the beginning in very way. I have been criticised for the way I look, what I wear - but then when you listen to your mind and your inner voice, all the other voices disappear.
What advice wold you like to give to the youngsters who want to take up bodybuilding?
If you are passionate about it, go for it. A lot of people don’t get a chance to pursue what they love because of external pressures. But if you are passionate about something, you should pursue it. For bodybuilding, specifically, patience, passion, discipline and consistency are an absolute must have. Discipline matters the most in this profession because you are not always motivated. But if you are dedicated and disciplined, then sky is the limit.
Which is your favourite Monster energy drink?
I love the Monster Zero Ultra. I have always been a fan of it. It’s my favourite.
How are you dealing with the quarantine?
I am at home, and safe, with my family. I am working out and following a clean diet. Obviously I am enjoying mangoes. Since I am a social influencer, I have started training people through Instagram, via Zoom. I have also started reading, although I have not been much of a book lover. I am also pursuing online courses on CPT and nutrition. I never thought this quarantine period would be so busy for me but I am loving it. Stay home! Stay safe
