Valentino Rossi: The Doctor Series Episode 5/5: The Boss

Valentino Rossi’s achievements lie embedded in the record books and the chronicles of almost seventy years of Grand Prix that testify to his numerous records. His impact can be seen through the many millions of sports fans around the globe that know about the ‘46’, bear the yellow or have found themselves on the edge of seats everywhere watching two decades of his racing exploits.

But what else for the 37 year old? Away from the track where does the next challenge lie?

‘The Boss’ carries a double meaning. Rossi is not only the top dog in the premier class of MotoGP and has existed in that sphere since 2000 but he also heads up a hefty business sprawl of merchandising and distribution. ‘VR46’ has a stylish and functional HQ near the rider’s home close to Tavullia and is the base for an enterprise that also looks after other MotoGP athletes’ official wares and even links-up with other sports, clubs and entities. The hub houses the VR46 Academy – when Rossi and the cream of Italy’s road racing future are not circulating The Ranch – is a point of operations for Sky Racing Team VR46 and the official Fan Club as well. It’s the operational heartbeat of his growing business empire.

This final episode in the series returns to Tavullia to look at Rossi’s competence in a totally different environment. As with his racing, Valentino surrounds himself with trusted advisors to oversee his interests away from two wheels and it’s this crew that provides insight into how Rossi is fashioning both a legacy and a deeper resonance to his life away from a track.
