Haslam leads BSB after Brands podium bounty

May 232016

The drops and speed of the short Indy circuit layout at Brands Hatch was the scene for some stunning racing in the third round of the 2016 British Superbike Championship that saw JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam leave the Kent venue with a win by the slimmest of margins, a second race finish of third place and the lead in the series standings. It was a bumper weekend for the 32 year old who captured headlines with his maiden victory on the reduced Brands layout (the national contest returns to the historic site to circulate the GP length course later in the season) by just five hundredths of a second from shocked teammate James Ellison. While Shane Byrne became the fifth different victor in the six outings of BSB so far in 2016 in the second race, Haslam was able to ride to third place for a second visit to the box with the ZX-10R. In contrast Ellison was left gnashing his teeth after a mechanical problem ruled him out of the restarted second dash.
