REED BACK ON THE BOX WITH ATLANTA REJUVENATION

Feb 292016

Monster Energy AMA Supercross is almost at the halfway stage of the 2016 campaign and Yamaha Factory Racing’s Chad Reed bounced back to the winner’s circle with round eight taking place in the vast Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The former champ guided his YZ450F to third place for his third trophy this season and since switching back to ‘blue’.Reed admitted to the press that he was looking for personal improvements heading to the venue where he scooped victory in 2015 and duly delivered on his vow. The 450SX Main Event saw a shootout between KTM teammates Ryan Dungey and Marvin Musquin that was won (for the fifth time this year) by the reigning champion but Reed was not far behind and walked the box ahead of Davi Millsaps and one of the mainstays on the Supercross schedule (almost forty years). Over 61,000 spectators took their seats for the latest episode in 2016 SX.

““We’re still making improvements and we’ll continue to take it race by race,””

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac charged back to eleventh position after falling on the first corner in what was a tangle with another rider. “We’re still making improvements and we’ll continue to take it race by race,” he said.

Tomac is sixth in the championship standings. Three points behind Reed who needs to find thirteen points over Jason Anderson to push up into the top three.

Atlanta saw the launch of the AMA 250SX East Coast contest and Monster Energy Pro Circuit’s Tyler Bowers and Arnaud Tonus were in action. Bowers could not hit the form achieved during 2015 where he was a regular podium contender and what was his first serious race back after injury. He would finish eighth while Tonus was near the back after making a mistake that dropped him away from a top ten slot. “In the main I climbed up to 10th but made a mistake and finished 19th,” the Swiss commented. “It felt really good to get back into competition and begin working towards our goal.”

The iconic Daytona Motor Speedway hosts the series for round nine this weekend.
