Anyone else sensing a pattern here? Tyler Wright just won her third event of the 2016 WSL season at the Oi Rio Pro, and for the third time in a row, she did it the hard way. In this case, she had to fight through four days of illness leading up to finals day, not to mention venue changes and marginal conditions. By the time she defeated rival Sally Fitzgibbons in the final, Tyler’s tank was nearly out of gas. “I’m just tired,” she said as the sun set on Rio. “I’m tired, I’m hungry. We got so flogged in that last heat. I’m so stoked to win, but it was hard work!” Well, her hard work paid off. Tyler’s win now puts her in the No. 1 spot for the women’s rankings, meaning she’ll be wearing the coveted yellow jersey when she gets to Fiji. And after an event like this, Fiji’s looking pretty good right about now.
