BIOGRAPHY

Royce Da 5’9” born Ryan Daniel Montgomery (July 5, 1977) first burst onto the music scene in the late ‘90s making a name for himself in Detroit’s competitive hip-hop scene battling local rappers at open mics. He would later befriend and join forces with another local rising talent Eminem, eventually recording their underground classics “Nothing To Do” and “Scary Movies” under the moniker “Bad Meets Evil” a name that would appear on Em’s multi-platinum debut, The Slim Shady LP. Over the next sixteen years Royce would record multiple albums, including solo projects Rock City (2002), Death Is Certain (2004), Independent’s Day (2005), Street Hop (2009) and Success Is Certain (2011) all while forming two additional groundbreaking groups. The four man wrecking crew Slaughterhouse releasing two albums Slaugterhouse LP (2009) and Welcome to: Our House (2012) via Shady Records and one album with the legendary DJ Premier as PRhyme PRhyme LP (2014) all while returning back to his roots with his original partner in rhyme Eminem as Bad Meets Evil with Hell: The Sequel (2011) “I’ve learned a lot over the years. I’ve learned a lot about myself as a man and I’ve also learned a lot about myself as an artist. When you’re in a group with MC’s as skilled as Joell, Crooked and Joe and then you have to turn around and rap with arguably the best rapper of all time with Marshall, the next month you’re in with the best hip hop producer of all time with Premier you learn to become very humble very quickly. This game isn’t just about making music, it’s a business and the way you interact with other people can make you or break you in this business.” In 2016, it would seem as if Royce has the world in the palm of his hands. With new solo albums, a follow up to their Welcome to: Our House Shady Records debut and a follow up their critically acclaimed PRhyme LP on the horizon the sky’s the limit for one of hip hop’s most versatile and longstanding MC’s.
