Five Finger Death Punch: Studio Update #2

Aug 262019

Five Finger Death Punch are back in the recording studio with more updates and studio diary videos, unleashing all their recording secrets, and giving Monster Energy and 5FDP fans and exclusive sneak-peak into their creative process.

Day 10

Five Finger Death Punch vocalist Ivan Moody gives us an in-depth tour of his home, beginning with his entryway featuring walls full of 5FDP awards & accolades collected over the years, as well as rock memorabilia from all his favorite artists. Of course, no memorabilia collection would be complete without a “guitar wall” comprised of guitars owned and autographed by legends like Brian Setzer (Stray Cats), Keith Richards, Eric Burdon (The Animals), Roger Waters (Pink Floyd), Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Tom Petty, Kenny Wayne-Shepherd and of course one of Dimebag Darryl’s owned and toured Washburn guitars autographed by every member of Damageplan.

Now no Rockstar house would be complete without a secret door hidden behind a bookshelf leading to his bedroom, and a private grotto in his back yard. Next Ivan takes us to the rooms we’re all dying to see, his home studio/vocal recording booth, complete with another secret door in his closet leading to his lyric-writing sanctuary. As Ivan states himself “Yeah man, this room is special to me…this is where all the demons come out.”

“Yeah man, this room is special to me…this is where all the demons come out.”

Day 11

Day 11 begins with Chris Kael briefing us on how 5FDP’s writing and creative process takes shape. Beginning with a collective effort between all band members individually collating their musical ideas in their own home studios, before collaborating as a group to fine tune the material ready for tracking.

Guitarist Zoltan Bathory gives us a sneak preview of a new riff before excitedly elaborating that “It feels like this is going to be a heavier record. I’m kind of in a 'War Is The Answer' mood. You know the first/second record, that’s sort of the kind of stuff that’s in my head right now.”

“It feels like this is going to be a heavier record.”

Day 12

The guys take a brief break from the studio to rehearse for their upcoming tour dates. From a small intimate rehearsal in the studio, to a full-scale stage production rehearsal. Next, we load up the semi-trailer with backline and hit the road with the guys…

Day 13

The guys are home fresh from their summer tour and without missing a beat, it’s straight back into the studio with producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Papa Roach, In This Moment, Disturbed, Slash, Rob Zombie) who has worked with the band on every release since 2009’s “War Is The Answer.” Lead guitarist Jason Hook has a new song the band is working on, which he discloses has a vibe similar to their huge hit “Wash It All Away.” In Hook’s own words it’s “just a good, up-tempo, feel good, gritty song.”

Day 14

On day 14, both Kevin and Ivan agree, we may have our first single off the new record! But for now, it’s time for the knuckleheads to knuckle-down and finish this record for the fans. Until next time…
