Dirt shredding against the picture postcard city of Mantova. It’s a unique mix of speed and style that is only delivered at the MXGP of Lombardia. Better still, the latest visit of motocross power to the Monatova forms the second round of the highly anticipated 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship.
For Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2's Jago Geerts, Mantova is a sweet reminder of past success. Geerts is one of the most successful riders on the soft soil of the Lombardia track, and is currently enjoying an epic streak of four victories at the circuit.
Sunday's outing was one of his most dominant in recent memory, as he won everything that there was to win, and led thirty-nine of the forty-eight laps. Additionally, he was the fastest in two of the three timed sessions. Unstoppable is a term that does not quite cover his form in the MX2 division.
"I am so happy about this weekend," Geerts told us. "I felt good on the track the whole weekend – I just had a great feeling all day. It was a really positive experience! I took the red plate too, which was a nice bonus. I just need to keep working and try to keep it going like this. I like the track at the next round in Argentina, so we will try to do this again."
