PURDON DOMINATES MX1 | SAMXN ROUND 2 RACE REPORT

Apr 102017

The second round of the 2017 Monster Energy TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship took place at Zone 7 in Cape Town over the weekend. Extreme heat put the riders to the ultimate test as they battled for valuable season points...

Monster Energy rider Tristan Purdon managed to stay on top in both heats taking the win in MX1 which puts himself in the lead of the current standings in the SAMXN 2017 season.
We caught up with Tristan to find out how it all went down.

Q&A: TRISTAN PURDON | MX1 WINNER

How did Round 2 go for you this weekend?

It was a pretty perfect weekend I would say, I ran much faster in practice and won both my motos. So I can't complain!

On the track, would you say it was a difficult win for you?

As things go, racing motocross isn't ever easy, but fortunately I've been putting in a lot of work since the first national in February. I took the lead every lap in both motos, so staying out in front is what made things easier for me this time, no rubbing shoulders and sketchy moments, I just ended up getting into such a good flow and had a great time doing it.

What were conditions like on the day?

Apart from the insane heat, the track was well prepped and running quite good in practice. As far as tactics go, I decided to put a scoop tire on for practice and Moto 1 and I think that helped me a lot.

So where are you standing in points now going onto the next round?

We're standing in a good position now which feels great, leading the championship with 15 points over 2nd.

Tristan Purdon wasn't the only one landing the results, David Goosen kept things smooth while battling the high temperatures and landed himself a 3rd in the MX2 class behind Maddy Malan & Richie van der Westhuizen.

Stay tuned for the next round of SA Motocross Nationals as it heads to Bloemfontein on the 6th of May.
