White-hot Monster Energy White Style freestyle MTB event set for this weekend

World’s premier winter freestyle mountain bike contest draws competitors from all points of the globe to Austria for this one-of-a-kind event from Monster Energy

Salzburgerland, Austria (Jan. 25, 2012) – The world’s premier freestyle mountain bike riders will converge in Austria this Friday, Jan. 27, for the Monster Energy White Style, presented by Kona, pitting the riders’ incredible aerial bike handling talents on a highly unique snow structure course set against the backdrop of the Leogang mountains.

The second year of title sponsorship by the American energy drink giant features 20 top riders from ten different countries, including Monster Energy’s two-time defending champion Sam Pilgrim, along with other top Monster Energy-backed freestyle MTBers Sam Reynolds and Lance McDermott – and the Monster Energy White Style course designer himself, Grant “Chopper” Fielder.

“I can’t begin to explain how sick the Monster Energy White Style is,” said Pilgrim, looking for his 3^rd consecutive win at the event. “Being it’s the middle of winter and our off season, the fans that come to see riders wad up no doubt go away happy. But once we get the jumps wired and our timing down everybody starts pushing each other and the amplitude just sky rockets with the same tricks you’d see on dirt. It’s one of those events we end up talking about all summer!”

A new step down near the judge’s tower will give riders a chance at an additional trick this year. And while the course is a touch shorter, Chopper assures us that the airtime will be just as big – if not bigger – than previous years. “With 7,000 Euros on the line, not to mention a year’s worth of bragging rights, Monster Energy White Style’s going off this weekend - guaranteed,” added Chopper.
