Pol Espargaró, llegó al campeonato mundial de 125 en el 2006 participando en las seis últimas carreras del años. Esta gran promesa de Barcelona, remplazó al lesionado Italiano Andrea Iannone en Campetella Racing e hizo su debut con el equipo Italiano en una Derbi, en el Gran Premio de la República Checa. Dos meses antes, Espargaró hizo historia en el GP de Catalunya cuando terminó 13º, convirtiendose en el piloto más joven en anotar puntos con sólo 15 años y 8 días. Su final de la temporada fue espectacular, ganando cinco carreras consecutivas en el Campeonato Español de 125cc para convertirse en campeón, seguido por un sexto puesto en el GP de Valencia.
