This year’s Safety Direct Galway International Rally will take place on the weekend of the 4th & 5th February, and rally headquarters will once again be situated at the Clayton Hotel in Ballybrit, Galway.

The Galway International Rally has a proud, successful history; including being the first ever round of the Irish Tarmac Championship in 1978. Today the rally is still the traditional season opener, drawing top competitors and huge crowds to Galway every year for the February event. It has also been a favourite of works World Rally teams, who have used the event in the past couple of years as a shakedown for Rally Ireland.

The event itself will be run over a new one day format with 10 stages, including the city centre Dyke Road stage, which was last run in 1998. There will then be 9 challenging stages in County Galway. Due to the new format, entries have flooded in and currently stand at over 140, which will make this event a sick start to the 2012 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship!
