Max Anstie Stays Perfect in FIM World SX with SX2 Win; Cooper Webb Returns to SX1 Podium
Team GSM’s Max Anstie dominates SX2 for his third straight win, while Cooper Webb makes a strong comeback with a podium finish in SX1.
Monster Energy’s Max Anstie (Team GSM, powered by Star Racing/Yamaha) remained undefeated on the five-round FIM World SX Championship tour, sweeping Team GSM, powered by Star Racing/Yamaha three wins in the SX2 class at Australia’s Cbus Super Stadium and taking all 45 points to extend his championship points lead to 28 (135-107) over Coty Schock (Rick Ware Racing).
And in SX1 racing at Cbus, Monster Energy’s Cooper Webb, representing Team GSM, powered by Star Racing/Yamaha, would score a 3rd place podium finish (4-1-6) in a wild night of racing that saw Monster Energy’s Haiden Deegan (6th), Justin Hill (12th) and Jason Anderson (13th) also competing.
Out of the SX2 gate, Anstie was, again, unstoppable. The Brit went 1-1-1 on the day/night and increased his undefeated WSX mark to 9-0 though three events. “That was awesome,” said Anstie. “Shane (McElrath, the defending WSX SX2 champ) has been riding great and that is why he has the number one plate on his bike. Pumped with my riding and my team. Looking forward to next week in Sweden.”
McElrath actually led the third moto for some time, but Anstie, in pursuit, would close the lead and, though McElrath attempted to block, Anstie got by the defending champ for the final moto win to secure the overall.
In SX1 Webb would open the first moto just off the podium, in 4th position, then came railing back – in his first supercross event since winning the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross’ premier 450 class title – and won Moto 2. The third and deciding race wouldn’t quite go Webb’s way, and he’d settle for 3rd place overall in his lone WSX event of the season.
“It was overall a good night,” said Webb. “I got the win in the second one, but I didn’t get the start in the last one and I didn’t execute. I went into the last race with a chance to win it all, I’m a little bummed with myself, but the racing was great and I loved being here.
“We will take the podium, but now we will get to our domestic series.”
Deegan, still cutting his teeth as a 450 class rookie, was in all kinds of awe as he got to race bar-to-bar with his former Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha teammate, Eli Tomac (KTM). “I am battling Eli Tomac and I was like a small kid, telling myself ‘I am battling Eli Tomac!. I just passed Eli Tomac! I just passed Eli Tomac!’ We fought hard and it was awesome.” Deegan, who will race Monster Energy AMA Supercross in the 450 class this year, beat former SX champions Tomac and Ken Roczen (Suzuki) in the third moto at Cbus.
Noteworthy in the SX1 class… Monster Energy’s Anderson is in 4th place after three rounds, just six points back (83-77) of Joey Savatgy for 3rd place in the overall standings.
