Freddie Lindgren’s the runner-up at FIM SGP Round 4 in Czech Republic

Published On:: 02/06/2024

Finding a burst of speed late in the heats and semi and carrying that pace into the finals, Monster Energy’s Freddie Lindgren secured his first main event podium finish – 2nd place – in front of a sold out crowd at Prague’s Marketa Stadium for Round 4 of the 2024 FIM Speedway Grand Prix Championship.

Lindgren, who admittedly had been struggling through the first three rounds of the SGP season, caught some momentum last weekend when he won his home country’s Swedish National Speedway Championship – for the fourth time.

Added Lindgren on the event win in Sweden: “And as I’ve been going through a bit of a rough time lately (racing SGP), we had a big testing day over the weekend and managed to iron out a few problems with my equipment. So I kind of came into the (Swedish) Championship with new hope. The intention was really to get a good feeling back on the bike, hopefully get a few heat wins and feel fast again. And it went even better than that.”

Carrying the momentum into Prague for the Orlen FIM Speedway of the Czech Republic, Lindgren nonetheless got out of the gate with zero points through the first two heats, but picked it back up in Heat No. 3 with a 2nd place run. Making the Semis (the only Monster Energy-backed racer to do so at Prague) with ten points through five heats, Lindgren had come on strong with six points in his final two rides – showing SGP fans the speed that earned him the overall runner-up position in last year’s SGP championship.

In Semi No. 2 Lindgren got a strong push out of the start gate and maintained a 2nd place position ahead of Denmark’s Mikkel Michelsen and Australia’s Max Fricke to transfer to the Final.

In the Final Lindgren would overcome a poor start to rip to the runner-up position, ahead of SGP champion Bartosz Zmarzlik (Poland), scoring 18 points on the weekend and moving to 7th place in the overall SGP standings – just three points back of 4th place overall in the tight series contest.

“I really needed that you know. I’ve been going through a really tough time the last few GPs and I’ve been very down,” explained Lindgren. “So to come back now and put myself on the podium – after a tough start in this main event today – showed some character … and, hopefully, I’m back now.”

Monster Energy’s Jack Holder would finish just outside the top ten (11th) at Prague, but still managed to hold onto the overall SGP series’ runner-up position. Monster Energy’s Dan Bewley finished just behind Holder in 12th on the day.
