Lindgren and Bewley both podium at FIM Speedway GP Round 9 at Latvia - Riga
Double podium finish for Monster Energy’s “Fast” Freddie Lindgren and Dan Bewley at Round 9 of 2024 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series’ Olybet FIM Speedway GP of Latvia (Riga) as the two raced to 2nd and 3rd positions on the rostrum, respectively, at Bikernieki on Saturday.
Lindgren’s 18-point effort, his fourth-straight FIM Speedway GP podium finish, launched him some seven points ahead of 3rd place Robert Lambert for 2nd place in the overall point standing, 124-117, with two rounds remaining on the ’24 SGP tour. But rather than worry about Lambert, Lindgren is focusing on stopping Riga winner and overall SGP points leader, Bartosz Zmarzlik, who holds a 17-point lead over Lindgren (141-124) – and can potentially clinch the championship at next weekend’s GP of Denmark – Vojens.

“For me, it would be a positive if I can do that,” said Lindgren on forcing Zmarzlik to the final round in Torun, Poland.
Lindgren opened the evening at Riga on fire, winning his first two heat races – and surviving a wild near get-off – when he struck a rut in his final heat race and almost wadded up.
“Yeah, started off the evening pretty well with a couple of wins, but my last race something happened and I finished last – was like riding a rodeo on my bike,” said Lindgren. “Had to come up with a solution for the semis to make the bike run smoother – and we did, mechanics came up with the right choice. Made it to the final and really wanted that win tonight, but didn’t have enough against Bartosz. Ended up second.”
As Lindgren mentioned, his last heat race was a wild one as he hit a massive rut on the track which, on a speedway bike at high speed, with no brakes and very minor suspension features, causes havoc. “Yes, as I mentioned, it wasn’t smooth at all. I had to calm myself down a bit after that, made a more ridable race bike, but overall it was a good night.”

In 3rd place on the night after dominating the heats, Bewley found himself in his 5th SGP final, having won the previous four.
“Third overall, first after the heats – but lost my final streak,” said Bewley. “Was going for five-for-five, made a good start in the final, but kind of messed up in the first corner a little bit. But to be honest, it’s nice to be back on the podium. Consistent night and the plan it to keep chipping away, making finals and getting the win when it’s there.”
