Rough week for Monster Energy’s Speedway GP racers as wrecks sideline stars Dan Bewley & Freddie Lindgren
Bewley (femur) and Lindgren (ankle) both out for considerable time; Jack Holder (5th) just missed Prague SGP final, 5th in overall standings
Monster Energy’s FIM Speedway Grand Prix season came to a full stop recently for two of its top racers as both Dan Bewley (Great Britain) and Freddie Lindgren (Sweden) both suffered possible season-ending and/or, at the least, multiple month sidelining injuries in separate club racing crashes.
For Bewley, a wild, mechanically induced wreck in Heat 1 of a Danish speedway race this past week resulted in a broken femur and compressed vertebrae. In the wreck Bewley’s bike jumped out of its sideways position, straightened up, and rocketed – with no brakes – into the first turn air fencing. The crash was so violent, and the damage to the air fencing so severe, that the race had to be cancelled – in addition to Bewley being carted off to the hospital.
Said Bewley: “I am absolutely devastated. I truly felt like I was entering my prime, probably enjoying speedway more than I have since I was 16. But I have a broken femur and a compressed vertebrae in my back, and I knew straight away that I broke my leg. But, thankfully, it’s a cleaner brake than last time.”
For Lindgren, a heavy slam at Poland’s PGE Ekstraliga on May 17th resulted in reported “significant muscle damage,” where he suffered a severe ankle injury that required surgery to repair ligaments at the ankle/tibia junction. Reports from Lindgren’s camp estimate recovery will take upwards of six weeks.
The loss of Bewley and Lindgren for the foreseeable future leaves Monster Energy with two SGP racers – Australian Jack Holder and Poland’s Patryk Dudek. This past weekend at the FIM Speedway GP of Czech Republic/Prague’s Marketa Stadium, Holder just missed out on making the final, taking a 5th place finish and 12 points out of SGP’s Round 2. Holder was having a solid day through the heats, winning his opening heat and scoring two more 2nd place finishes before a 2nd place run in his LCQ would end his evening just short of the final race. On the season Holder sits in 5th position, tied with 4th place Leon Madsen with 21 points, and just five points out of an overall podium position.
Up next… FIM Speedway Grand Prix moves to Manchester, Great Britain, for the June 5th Round 3 of the 2026 series – the ATPI FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Manchester.
