It’s difficult to ignore the distinctive body shape that Alex Rins pulls on the works Monster Energy Yamaha and a wonderful style that has led to much achievement but also a lot of drama. Rins is a Grand Prix winner in all three categories and could be one of the very few to earn spurs with three different motorcycle brands in the premier class if he can push the Yamaha M1 to P1. The Catalan established his fondness for last lap spectacles back in 2013 when he was part of a three-way dice for victory at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia. Those three riders – Rins, Maverick Viñales and Luis Salom – were also disputing the Moto3 championship that year and the trio flew into the final turn at the final race together. Rins almost made it but Viñales claimed the grandstand climax. Alex would wait six years (and four wins in Moto2 in two seasons) to have revenge with his amazing maneuver to overtake Marc Marquez and win the 2019 MotoGP British Grand Prix at Silverstone while riding for Suzuki. He would also prevail in the 2022 Australian Grand Prix where the top seven were divided by just 0.8 of a second for one of the best races of the modern era. In 2023 he was a class apart for Honda on the way to his second ‘stamp’ of authority at the Circuit of the Americas: which is still the last victory for the Japanese heading into the 2025 championship. Sadly, Alex sustained a badly broken right leg with a crash at Mugello shortly after his Honda feat and the repercussions were felt throughout 2023 and 2024 as he required further surgery and had to be patient with his shot in Monster Energy Yamaha colors. With 18 MotoGP trophies in his pocket, there has to still be more to come.
