Adams (Kawasaki) leads the Monster Army assault with the Open Pro & 250 Pro Sport classes sweep; Thomas, Dudney & Covell each nail double championships

The world’s foremost proving ground for future professional motocross talent – the 43rd running of the Monster Energy AMA Amateur Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL – came to glowing green conclusion over the past weekend at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., with Monster Energy athletes scoring an unprecedented 13 individual championships, eight runner up positions to total an amazing 28 overall podium places.

Leading the charge for the Monster Army at Loretta’s was Monster Energy/Team Green/Kawasaki’s Drew Adams who swept the premier Open Pro Sport and 250 Pro Sport titles, which earned him the AMA’s Nicky Hayden Horizon Award as the top young pro motocross prospect.

In Adams’ final moto of the week, 250 Pro Sport Moto 3, he got off to a clean then tracked down race leader, Monster Energy’s Cole Davies (Star Racing/Yamaha) at the 10:36 mark and took ‘er home from there to complete a 1-1-1 250 Pro Sport sweep. Davies would finish on 250 Pro Sport podium in 3rd place overall, completing the Monster Energy class sweep with Adams and Avery Long (Yamaha) in 2nd place. Adams would also win the Open Pro Sport class (4-1-1), with Long (2nd) and Leum Oehlhof (Yamaha, 3rd) to complete the Monster Energy Pro Sport class podiums sweep.

“I said at the start of the week if I get to the start of the first turn I can do it. So might as well win five, as I’ve won four (motos) so far. This is it for me and Loretta’s Lynn’s and I’m glad I had a great week here,” said Adams, who’s now set to battle for the Canadian MX Nationals 250 Pro/Am title in Waldon, Ontario on August 11th. Adams has won four of the seven Canadian Triplecrown Series races this summer in a tune up for his MX Nationals debut (Ironman, Aug. 24) and trails leader Kaven Benoit (KTM) by eight points, 307-299, with Waldon being the final race of the ’24 Canadian MX season.

Loretta’s Schoolboy classes, 1 & 2 would go to Monster Energy’s Owen Covell (Yamaha) and Caden Dudney (Kawasaki), each adding another title (250 B for Dudney and 125cc Jr. for Covell) as multiple champions for Monster Energy.

“We’re here, we got it done and we’re having fun,” said Dudney, the Loretta’s national champion from the podium.

Added Covell, who completed the 1-1-1 Schoolboy 1 moto sweep: “I had a good gate pick, which definitely helped me, starts were slick all week. My mechanic put some work and got some good dirt on top and I ripped a good start – my first one (Stacyc Holeshot) of the week.”

Loretta’s 450 B and 450 B Limited was ruled by Monster Energy’s Diesel Thomas (Husqvarna). All totaled, Thomas, coming off a broken femur in 2023, won four of the six 450 class motos, including the all-important final 450 B Limited moto to earn him the 450 Loretta’s title sweep.

“There’s a lot of problems that come with breaking your femur, believe it or not,” said Thomas, who suffered the injury at Freestone, Texas. “I still have the rods and both screws in my leg. But I’m up for the challenge and yeah, I conquered them and here I am.”

Added MX Sports’ Loretta Lynn’s Live reporter Jason Weigandt: “He’s (Thomas) been a front runner at Loretta’s many, many times. But this is his year with two Loretta’s championships.

Rounding out the 2024 Monster Energy Loretta Lynn’s AMA Amateur Motocross Championship title winners won one title each for Monster Energy were: Grant McDonald (KTM, Supermini 1), Aidan Zingg (KTM, Supermini 2), Dane Pappas (Gas Gas, Mini Sr. 2), Grayson Townsend (Kawasaki, 250 B Limited) and Kyleigh Stallings (Kawasaki, WMX).
