Drew Adams bounces back @ Loretta’s… wins Day 2’s Open Pro Sport & 250 Pro Sport Day 2 motos

Published On: 7/31/2024

Day 2 Monster Energy moto winners at Loretta’s also include Seth Dennis, Caden Dudney, Kyleigh Stallings, Diesel Thomas, Darren Pine, Owen Covell & Aidan Zingg

With easily the worst start of his young pro motocross career at the 43rd running of the Monster Energy AMA Amateur Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, behind him, Monster Energy’s Drew Adams (Kawasaki) came ripping back with a statement day at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., scoring the 1-1 moto sweep in the event’s premier classes 250 Pro Sport (Moto 2) and Open Pro Sport (Moto 1).

Adams, who dominated the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship’s SX Futures races earlier this year and recently won the MX Combine event at RedBud at the MX Nationals, wadded up at the start in the opening 250 Pro Sport moto on Tuesday, then blitzed back from dead last to a highly important 4th place finish. His start in Open Pro Sport on Wednesday was better, though 13th position wasn’t exactly what he’d hoped for on the opening lap. But from there Adams quickly went after the race leaders, Monster Energy’s Leum Oehlhof (Yamaha) and Enzo Temmerman (Kawasaki), moving into 3rd position at the end of Lap 1 – then into the lead (ahead of Temmerman) on Lap 6.

“Yesterday wasn’t the day I wanted. We salvaged it really good,” said Adams of Tuesday’s opening 250 Pro Sport moto. “Today was a lot harder on the start, but I knew I could win as long as I got through the first turn. 25 minutes on the track, Cole (Davies, Monster Energy/Star/Yamaha) messed up, then I got Enzo on the next lap and was able to get the win.”

Temmerman and Oehlhof would finish on the podium with Adams in the all-Monster Energy Open Pro Sport in 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.

In the second main event of the day, 250 Pro Sport’s second moto, Adams was again victorious after another start out of the top ten forced him to again rocket through a field of the best future pros. Adams would chase down Monster Energy racers Oehlhof, Long and Parker Ross (Honda) with nine laps in the books – and was pressuring leaders Oehlhof and Long – went the two went down, simultaneously, in a heavily rutted corner as Adams blazed by.

Said Adams: “It would be easy if it wasn’t so hot out right now. That’s definitely 50 percent of the race now. We got it done. Starts are getting better and it’s becoming a good week.”

Ross and Long would complete Monster Energy’s second premier class podium sweep of the weekend, going 2-3, respectively, in 250 Pro Sport behind Adams.

Also scoring moto wins on Day 2 at Loretta’s for Monster Energy were: Seth Dennis (450 B Limited), Caden Dudney (Schoolboy 2), Kyleigh Stallings (WMX), Darren Pine (Supermini 1), Diesel Thomas (450 B), Owen Covell (Schoolboy 1) and Aidan Zingg (Supermini 2).

Notes & Quotes

  • “One of the best motos I’ve ever seen. The parting of the blue seas.” – MX Sports’ Loretta’s Live announcer Jason Weigandt on Wednesday’s 250 Pro Sport moto where Yamaha race leaders Leum Oehlhof and Avery Long crashed, allowing Drew Adams to get by.
  • “I was right on Leum, we just both came into the same line, he kind of made a bobble, I was already committed to the line – and we both went over. Sucks, but it is what it is.” – Long on the 250 Pro Sport late race crash, while leading, with Leum Oehlhof.
  • “Simple words: ‘I wanted it.’ – Monster Energy’s Parker Ross (Honda), runner up to Adams in the 250 Pro Sport class on Wednesday.
  • “I got the 23rd gate pick and didn’t really start in that great of a position… was about 10th after the first lap. But then I just worked my way up. Was pretty locked in. Didn’t even know I got the win until I looked at the pit board.” – Supermini 2 Moto 1 winner Aidan Zingg
  • “I remember talking to Seth Dennis up here (Loretta’s podium) when he was eight years old on a 50. Now he’s on a 450 and winning.” – Weigandt
  • “Good reaction time and let the thing eat.” Seth Dennis who pulled the Stacyc holeshot in the 450 B Limited class on a 250cc bike.
  • “I remember you as a 50cc little guy as well.” – Weigandt on Diesel Thomas, 2nd place in the 450 B Limited.
  • “Honestly, it was kind of annoying, I’d catch him, then he’d pull away. Catch him… then he’d pull away. Looking forward to Moto 2.” – 2nd place Thomas on his 450 B Limited battle with Dennis.
  • “Drew 31 for a chip, way inside and just didn’t get a good start. Knew I had come back through the pack. Team had this bike dialed and it goes anywhere I go.” Monster Energy’s Owen Covell, the Schoolboy 1 Moto 1 winner.
  • “Finally got a start, started with a good chip. Got a good gate pick. Made a few passes in a few laps, just kept charging. Made a few mistakes towards the end, which was a little scary. But overall it was really good.” – Monster Energy’s Caden Dudney (Kawasaki), on winning the first Schoolboy 2 moto.
  • “Not the best start, not the best beginning of the moto either. Was kind of in a funk, but I got a pass there at the end (for 2nd place).” – Monster Energy’s Landen Gordon (Kawasaki), 2nd place behind Dudney in Schoolboy 2 Moto 1.
  • “I’d like to thank Fox Moto for keeping me kitted.” – Drew Adams on the podium with a cool way of thanking his gear sponsor.
  • “I drew nine, so pretty good out of 42. Picked the best gate I could. Wheelied out of the start, but the Dunlop tires hooked up, got me out of there pretty good and still came out of with the holeshot. Wasn’t pushing at the beginning, which is something I struggle with. But we’ll pick that up in the next moto.” – Monster Energy’s 1st place finisher in WMX Moto 1, Kyleigh Stallings
  • “Pulled the holeshot, sprinted for a few laps, then just kind of rode my own race.” – 450 B opening moto winner Diesel Thomas.
