Five Monster Energy Riders Crowned Champions at Loretta Lynn's
Monster Energy riders captured five AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's Ranch as Tanner Dorman, Darren Pine, Gauge Brown, Mayla Herrick, and Cooper Johnson claimed national titles on a banner day in Tennessee.
Banner day for Monster Energy amateur motocross racers at the 45th running of the Monster Energy AMA Amateur Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., as five glowing green M-claw emblazoned racers stood atop the most important podium of their young racing careers.
Monster Energy’s Tanner Dorman (250 B), Darren Pine (250 B Ltd), Gauge Brown (125 Jr B/C), Mayla Herrick (Women) and Cooper Johnson (Supermini 1) were all crowned ‘Loretta’s Champions’ on Friday, leading a highly successful day of racing for the California-based energy drink company that saw six racers capture moto wins, with 16 racers scoring moto podium finishes. In addition to the aforementioned Monster Energy Loretta’s Champions, multiple Monster Energy racers scored highly important overall Loretta’s class podium finishes, including; Tristan Pruiett (2nd, 250 B), Dane Pappas (3rd, 250 B), Easton Graves (2nd, Supermini 1), Maddox Temmerman (3rd, Supermini 1), Eidan Steinbrecher (2nd in both Mini Sr 1 and Mini Sr 2), Braxton Mes (2nd, 250 B Ltd), Ries Seeba (3rd, 250 B Ltd), Sawyer Gieck (2nd, 125 Jr B/C), Jordan Jarvis (2nd, Women) and Carson Wood (3rd, 250 Pro Sport).
One of the day’s most impressive and dominant efforts, and subsequent quote of the week so far, would go to Herrick. The Coloradoan ripped a massive holeshot in the final Women’s class race – and walked the walk through the checkers and on the podium.
Quick rewind to Thursday, which Herrick said following her Moto 2 3rd place finish: “I’m winning (Moto 3) and I don’t care what anyone says.”
Added Herrick following Friday’s Moto 3 win, which earned here the National Championship: “I told everyone I was going to win – and I did.”
In the 450 B Ltd class, Monster Energy would sweep the podium with Pruiett (2nd) and Temmerman (3rd) joining champion Dorman, who logged a consistent 2-3-4 three moto effort for the overall win.
Said Dorman: “I was kind of buried off the start, but picked it up at the end. So yeah, I’m happy.”
Added P/A announcer Jason Weigandt with MX Sports: “Willy Browning from the AMA is going to hand you your No. 1 National Champion (number) plate,” which Dorman accepted with a big smile.
Added Pruiett, who went 11-1-1 for 2nd: “Dane (Pappas) was riding really good, so I charged hard to catch up. But I passed him and got the job done for 2nd overall – with a pretty terrible first moto.”
In the premier 250 Pro Sport class Wood entered the final race tied in championship points with Landon Gibson, and looked to have a good shot at winning early on. But Gibson proved to be too much as Wood couldn’t close the gap after losing the lead, settling on 2nd and 3rd overall in the class that showcases the rising stars of upcoming Monster Energy AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross Championship racing seasons.
“I got a descent start, then followed Landon (Gibson) for a little bit,” said the Star Racing/Yamaha rider. “After a while I struggled with arm pump. Track’s gnarly. I’m going to need to ride smoother.”
Action continues at Loretta’s on Saturday, the final day of racing, highlighted by championship chases in Open Pro Sport, 450 B Ltd, Schoolboy 1 & 2, Girls 11-16 and Supermini 2.
