Monster Energy and OpTic Gaming Deliver Frag Cup V: Here Are the Top 5 Plays
Frag Cup V brought nonstop action as OpTic and Monster Energy teamed up for a Black Ops 7 event packed with epic plays and unforgettable comebacks.
OpTic and Monster Energy partnered up for yet another spectacular Black Ops 7 event, Frag Cup V (FCV). This fresh take on a classic tournament delivered thrilling moment after thrilling moment, so we’ve assembled some of the best plays from the game’s top players.
The dust has settled on FCV, and what a time we had. The Black Ops 7 season got off to an unbelievable start back at our Monster Energy Invitational, and the action didn’t slow down a bit for our $25,000 switcheroo, FCV.
Eight teams, each comprised of two duos from separate pro squads, took on eight Challengers teams in an unforgettable weekend of action. There was heart-pounding action every single series, and we’ve picked some of the biggest moments of the tourney to highlight the explosive plays and showstopping comebacks that made the event such a success. Let’s jump right into it with our first play, which comes courtesy of a defending World Champion.
#5. Shotzzy The Wall Jump Warrior
The second matchup between CABAL Gaming and Team Shotzzy featured one of the best Scar Hardpoint contests of the year. Team Shotzzy found themselves trailing by 50 points, more than halfway through the match. Just when things seemed like they might get out of hand, the movement maestro used two clever wall jumps and a slick slide to pick up a four-piece, keeping his squad in the game right until the final seconds.
Cabal Gaming closed out the game and the series, but it’s plays like this that make Shotzzy the undisputed movement king of Call of Duty.
#4. Exnid Gets Blessed
Team Kismet was locked in a heated battle in their first lower bracket match. Eight points away from getting on the board first, their opponents had broken the hill, and a full 60-second hold would have spelled disaster. However, a lucky spawn put Exnid behind the defense, and that little opportunity was all he needed. A quick kill chain opened up just enough space for him to clear out hill, reposition in time for any desperation pushes off of spawn, and to take home a hard-fought W.
#3. ErikBooM Slams The Door
OMiT Brooklyn has been here before, as the Challengers staple always fields a roster capable of competing with the best in the world. This year is no different. ErikBoom is a Call of Duty League regular, and his quality shone through vs. Team Purj. His squad held a 4-1 Overload lead, but pressure was mounting after a flurry of kills mid-map. Just when it felt like Team Purj might find a sliver of daylight, the former Miami Heretic popped off, wiping out the attack and grabbing the ball for a perfectly executed counter-attack.
His success didn’t stop there, either. He transferred that momentum into the rest of the game, blazing a hole in Team Purj’s defense, and ultimately leading to the other side invoking a Mercy rule ending rather than fighting off the onslaught.
#2. Huke Calls Game
Very few people in Call of Duty have takeover potential like The Nuke. His star power was extremely evident as Team Shotzzy fought for its tournament life in the lower-bracket rematch against CABAL Gaming.
Den Hardpoint was off to a hotly contested start, with Huke’s squad leading by about 30 points just about two minutes into the game. Both squads were fighting tooth and nail to maintain control of the current point. Nades were flying, trades were coming in at lightspeed, and at the end, it seemed CABAL was going to close the early gap. Except, Huke had other plans. A well-placed nade secured the opening kill, and gun skill took care of the rest.
#1. Dashy Saves The Day
Team Dashy entered Grand Finals feeling untouchable, but the first Hardpoint of the series was spiraling out of control. A 70-point deficit had the two-time champ on the back foot. Yet, one heroic play was all it took to flip the script. A three-piece from Dashy broke the Team Drazah’s defense wide open, and each elimination after set off a chain reaction that saw the eventual champions close out the game 250-246. Trophy-worthy moments rarely come better than this one. It was a spectacular effort throughout the tournament from Team Dashy, and a well-deserved win in the end.
