Monster Energy’s Joshua Van shocks the MMA world at UFC 323 in Las Vegas, defeating Alexandre Pantoja by first-round TKO to claim the Flyweight title.

History was made at UFC 323: Dvalishvili vs Yan 2 as Monster Energy’s Joshua Van claimed the UFC Flyweight World Championship with a stunning first-round TKO victory over Alexandre Pantoja inside the sold-out T-Mobile Arena. The 24-year-old fighter from Houston, Texas, ended Pantoja’s reign in dramatic fashion, becoming the second-youngest champion in UFC history.

Van’s Breakthrough Moment

Van (16-2) entered the Octagon riding a five-fight win streak, including a recent victory over Brandon Royval at UFC 317. Facing Pantoja (30-6), who was defending his title for the fifth time, Van showcased composure and skill from the opening bell.

The fight’s decisive moment came just 26 seconds into Round 1. After defending a high kick, Van initiated a takedown that led to an awkward scramble. Pantoja’s arm twisted during the exchange, resulting in a dislocated shoulder. Referee Herb Dean stopped the fight, declaring Van the winner by TKO.

“I didn’t know what happened. I was trying to ground-and-pound, but the ref said something was wrong. He’s one of the greatest of all time, and I didn’t want the fight to go that way,” said Van after the victory. “I’m so blessed. People of Myanmar, now the world will know of us.”

Born in Myanmar and now fighting out of Houston, Van’s win marks a historic milestone for his career and his country.
