Nobody slays it harder on dirt bikes than Axell Hodges. Raised on a steady diet of motocross and supercross racing, “Slay” came into his own as a trailblazer of freeriding’s evolution. On the competition circuit, Axell can hold it down with the best of the best, thanks to his penchant for creative tricks and maximum levitation. Since making his debut at X Games Austin 2016, where his stylish backward-flying airs instantly earned silver in Moto X Best Whip, he’s chalked up an impressive seven medals, including two gold. Then again, Axell’s focus is out on the track, sending contorted airs as well as the technical wheelies, stoppies, transfers, and wallrides that have made him a viral attraction on Instagram and Snapchat. Axell became a prime-time sensation when he attempted setting a new long-distance jump record on 2019’s “Evel Live 2” History Channel show, despite suffering an injury during practice. Never stopped by setbacks, Axell quickly returned to raising the bar by landing the first-ever alley-oop quarterpipe air on FMX in 2020. Not to forget his Slayground video series that has racked up over 11million views on YouTube – and counting. In 2021, the trilogy ended with a bang: Filmed at Axell’s private motocross compound in San Diego, Slayground 3 pushes the boundaries with a plus-twenty-jump line for the ages and next-level tech moves (backflip to manual, anyone?) on skate-inspired obstacles.
